Even on stalker mode it is enough to keep you warm in a cave without a fire. Better warmth for the weight/sprint penalty. I use a military jacket with a wolf coat over the top.
The +12 warmth bonus plus your gear should be warm enough for most voyager nights unless it is a blizzard. That's actually the wolf coat that gets a chance to scare off wolves. I'd just hollow out the bear and wear it completely. Wolves may or may not attack you in bear coat. I hear the bearskin coat adds to your animal attack-scare ratio. I use the plain old bedroll all the time.
